Johnny Depp has donned his Captain Jack Sparrow costume once again as he surprised children in a Spanish hospital.

Depp, 61, is one of Hollywood's biggest stars and has some huge roles under his belt.

Despite however many eye-catching roles he performs, there is one that will always reign supreme.

This is, of course, Captain Jack Sparrow.

The beloved Disney character first hit our screens in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Depp portrayed Jack Sparrow for five movies in total, with the last outing coming in Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, originally titled Dead Men Tell No Tales.

While there is talk of the franchise being rebooted without Depp, many believe that his character is integral to the story.

Well, while Captain Jack Sparrow might not be reappearing on our screens anytime soon, he can sometimes be found making unwell children smile in hospitals.

On Thursday, September 26, the actor, dressed as his iconic character from the Pirates of the Caribbean series, surprised young patients.

Depp took time to pose for photos, share stories, and bring smiles to children undergoing treatment at the Donostia University Hospital in San Sebastián, Spain.

The hospital shared the emotional visit on social media, posting several photos of Depp interacting with children on X (formerly Twitter).

“From all the staff of the Donostia University Hospital, we would like to express our infinite gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, his support, and his energy, as well as to @sansebastianfes for having facilitated this visit,” the hospital’s post read.

In a statement, Osakidetza-Basque Health Service highlighted how much joy Depp’s visit brought to the children, saying: “They have shared laughs and anecdotes, and he has helped them forget for a few minutes the difficulties they are going through at the moment.

"It was a gift that brought joy to patients, families, nursing professionals, doctors, and all the staff who were working on the ward at the time.”

The health service also expressed their appreciation for Depp’s presence, adding: “From Osakidetza, and especially from all the staff at the Donostia University Hospital, we would like to express our infinite gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, his support, and his energy, he has been a breath of fresh air for the entire ward.”

This isn’t the first time Depp has donned his Captain Jack Sparrow costume for hospital visits.

In 2015, he spoke about his daughter Lily-Rose’s nine-day stay at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she was treated for kidney failure caused by E.coli poisoning in 2007, per the Independent.

Since then, Depp has continued visiting hospitals, using his famous character to cheer up children. Reflecting on these visits, he once said: “For me, it’s a gift. They give me the gift.

“When my daughter was ill in Great Ormond Street it was the darkest period of my life. I’d always done these visits but after that experience, the visits became more and more important,” Depp shared.

“The kids are so courageous, but to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to the parents means everything in the world to me,” he added.
