Rumors are circulating that Johnny Depp will be making his Hollywood comeback with an appearance in the sequel to 1988's Beetlejuice.
Tim Burton's original Beetlejuice movie centers around the spirits of a "deceased couple who are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home". Ultimately, they recruit a rather malicious spirit - portrayed by Michael Keaton - to force the family out.
The dead couple, Adam and Barbara Maitland, are played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis in the original movie.
Burton has confirmed that a sequel is on its way, with Winona Ryder set to reprise her role as Lydia Deetz.
Eagle-eyed fans of the '80s movie believe they have found evidence that Depp will be appearing in the upcoming movie, as a Google search for the film includes Depp - alongside Keaton and Ryder - in the cast list.
One fan shared their excitement at the prospect of the 58-year-old actor joining the cast, writing: "Thrilled to see Johnny Depp added to the cast of Beetlejuice 2 #IStandWithJohnnyDepp."
Another fan responded: "Yeah Johnny. That is awesome about movies are opening up for you. I know they would. You are awesome. I wish you the best!!!"
A third remarked: "I would love to see Johnny depp star in Beetlejuice 2, he would be so perfect for the movie and he is so talented love you Johnny."
Yet another overjoyed Depp fan penned: "I am gonna watch it 100 times!!! in support of Johnny Depp. I can't wait to see him on cinema finally! There's sunshine after a storm, always. The sun will shine again on Johnny. Fearless forecast: this will be the first movie to gross $2 Billion."
A Beetlejuice 2 movie was confirmed by Deadline back in February earlier this year, with Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment set to produce the picture alongside Warner Bros.
There has been no confirmation that the Pirates of the Caribbean star will indeed be joining the fourthcoming sequel.
According to Deadline, filming on the movie could potentially start as soon as this summer. The outlet reported in February that a script was yet to be written.
