Jonah Hill has directly appealed to his fans to stop leaving comments about his body on social media following his weight loss.

The 21 Jump Street star, 37, has, like many of his fellow actors, had to contend with incessant scrutiny of his physique throughout his career in show business.

And in recent years, he hasn't shied away from calling out the press for body-shaming him. Although now, Hill is asking his own fans to re-think the comments they leave for him on social media regarding his body.

On Wednesday, October 13, the actor took to Instagram to share an important message with his 3.1 million followers.

He wrote alongside a red heart emoji: "I know you mean well but I kindly ask that you not comment on my body good or bad I want to politely let you know it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good. Much respect."

Since it was shared less than 24 hours ago, the post has quickly racked up nearly half a million likes and more than 10,000 comments.

A number of the commenters rallied around the star, with fan Lynzy Lab writing: "You’re so awesome. Way to set those boundaries!!!"

Another person shared: "So much respect for you writing this Jonah. Nobody has any right to comment on your body, it is sacred to you and let’s focus on your absolutely incredible acting and projects that you are doing constantly."

This isn't the first time Hill has spoken out about the demeaning comments about his weight.

Earlier this year, he took to his Instagram to share a poignant post about finally being able to love himself following years of insecurities.

Alongside a screenshot of a mean-spirited news article that published his shirtless paparazzi photos, Hill wrote: "I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends.

"Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers. So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope.

"I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself. This isn’t a 'good for me' post. And it’s definitely not a 'feel bad for me post'. It’s for the the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love."
