Julia Haart has revealed that she breastfed her brother at the request of her mother.

Haart, the renowned fashion designer and star of My Unorthodox Life shared the surprising revelation during a recent episode of the podcast Not Skinny but Not Fat.

The 52-year-old designer disclosed that she had breastfed her younger brother - who is 23 years her junior and just few months younger than her eldest daughter - after her mom had asked her to do so.

Haart candidly recounted the perplexing situation, saying: "You wanna hear a real mind f***? I nursed my brother." She went on to explain that her mother had requested her assistance because she was already nursing her own daughter at the time.

The 52-year-old added: "My mother’s like, 'Oh, you’re already nursing your daughter, take this one too' — and so I ended up nursing my brother and my daughter. Now that’s a mind f***."

The incident occurred when Haart was part of the Haredi community in New York, a sect within Orthodox Judaism that adheres to traditional practices and values. She eventually left the community in 2013 when she was 42 years old.

During the interview, Haart drew a comparison between her upbringing and the point in time when wet nurses were commonly employed.

A wet nurse is a woman who breastfeeds another woman's child, a practice that largely ceased in the 20th century. Haart then referred to herself as a "time traveler" and suggested that understanding her former world would require a journey back in time.

When asked about when she began questioning her beliefs, Haart admitted: "My entire life - silently. But they had convinced me that I was somehow inherently flawed for not being okay with the system."

However, it was her 23-year-old daughter, Miriam, who ultimately prompted her to challenge these beliefs when she came out as bisexual.

Haart explained: "No one could convince me that she was somehow flawed. When she started questioning [the beliefs], that’s when I realized it’s not [only] me, it’s the system."

In addition to discussing her past, the fashion designer touched on her first marriage, an arranged marriage at the age of 19 to a man named Yosef Hendler.

Despite the circumstances, she described Hendler as a "lovely" person and joked: "The guy I was forced to marry is a much nicer one person than the man I chose."

Haart's second marriage to Silvio Scaglia in 2020 was short-lived, and she filed for divorce in December 2022, accusing him of threatening to kill her. Scaglia denied these allegations, per Page Six.
