A stylist has claimed that Janet Jackson's Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction was "set up" by Justin Timberlake

Wayne Scot Lukas told Page Six that Timberlake wanted to outdo ex-girlfriend Britney Spears after she made headlines for kissing Madonna at the 2003 MTV VMA awards.

Timberlake was sitting in the audience when the pair locked lips and famously gave a disapproving look to the cameras when his faced was panned in on for his reaction.

According to Lucas, the following year, it had been agreed that Jackson would wear a pearl G-string inspired by Kim Cattrall's character in Sex and the City.

However, Timberlake allegedly had other ideas in the hope of outshining his ex.

Lukas said: "He insisted on doing something bigger than their performance. He wanted a reveal."

With that in mind, Jackson's outfit reportedly changed a couple of days before the performance.

At the 2004 Super Bowl, Timberlake notoriously tore off part of Jackson's top to reveal her breast, something he later described as a "wardrobe malfunction".

But Lukas is now claiming that the incident wasn't an accident.

He told Page Six: "I wouldn't call it a wardrobe 'malfunction' in a million years. It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do."

Lukas decided to open up about the famous incident after Timberlake recently apologized to Jackson, with the singer's manager, Johnny Wright, insisting that he has been forgiven by Jackson.

"Janet has already forgiven Justin in private. They made their peace a long time ago," he said.

Lukas is now planning to open up about the Super Bowl incident in greater detail in a new tell-all book as well as other showbiz secrets.

However, he has insisted that he will not be revealing anything else about Jackson.

"I'll never throw her under the bus. She’s my friend and is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever worked for. There’s nothing shady about her," he said.

Lukas, who is still searching for a publisher for his book, has titled it: Wardrobe Malfunctions: Receipts from the Front Lines and the Front Row.

A representative for Justin Timberlake has been contacted for a comment.
