For years, it was believed that Kate Middleton did her own makeup for her 2011 royal wedding to Prince William, but now the truth is finally out.

Makeup mogul Bobbi Brown, 68, has revealed that while the Princess of Wales did indeed use Bobbi Brown products on her big day, she didn’t apply them herself.

“I didn't do her makeup. I wish I did,” Brown shared on the Breaking Beauty podcast while promoting her new book Still Bobbi. “It was one of my artists, Hannah Martin, who's become quite a sensation in the U.K.”

Brown explained that Martin was the one working behind the scenes on Kate’s bridal glam, confirming the detail for the first time.

“Hannah did her makeup,” she said.

“Hannah did give me some information that I should set my alarm and watch.

"We were texting back and forth, and she's like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.’”

Although they didn’t take public credit at the time, Brown added she still has a personal note in her office written on behalf of Kate, thanking the team for the makeup.

Kate’s wedding day look wasn’t just about her flawless makeup.

Her hairstyle (soft curls in a polished half-updo) was created by London stylists James Pryce and Richard Ward of Richard Ward salon.

“Catherine was very involved in her chosen style, and the bridal look was based on her own personal preference,” Ward told PEOPLE at the time.

“It was really a matter of getting a fine balance of feeling natural but also reflected the occasion.”

To get the look just right, Ward said he created three “mood boards” for Kate, narrowing them down with her input before the big day.

The process was kept completely under wraps until she walked down the aisle.

The prep behind the iconic look

Kate’s hair prep began the night before her wedding, with a two-hour session that included a wash, blow-dry, and curl-setting.

On the morning of April 29, 2011, she sat for another two hours of styling starting at 6:30 a.m.

The result? A timeless royal bridal look that’s still being talked about over a decade later.

In fact, her wedding dress has been dubbed one of the most iconic in history.
