Kate Winslet has opened up about one of her most iconic Titanic scenes.

James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster about the ill-fated cruise liner was always going to catapult its leading cast to international stars.

Therefore, when the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater came to light, Winslet ensured she did everything in her power to make sure she landed the role.

Speaking to Rolling Stone back in 1998, Winslet went as far as to call Cameron "mad" if he didn't cast her in the role, and even sent him a single rose, along with a card signed "from your Rose".

Of course, Winslet's persistence led to her landing the role. However, despite the movie skyrocketing Winslet to international fame, it also left her with several regrets.

Fans of the movie will undoubtedly remember the iconic scene in which Rose tells artist Jack: "Draw me like one of your French girls" - referring to the Parisian women Jack would sketch in brothels. Then in her first-class cabin - and wearing nothing but the Heart of the Ocean - Jack would draw Rose.

The scene was actually Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's first scene together - and their nervousness was something that Cameron believed added to the scene. "It wasn't by any kind of design, although I couldn't have designed it better. There's a nervousness and an energy and a hesitance in them," Cameron previously revealed.

Another little-known piece of trivia from the movie is that it was actually Cameron who drew the sketch of Rose. "You know what it means for her, the freedom she must be feeling. It's kind of exhilarating for that reason," he said about the scene.

However, the scene has not had a similar long-lasting impact on Winslet.

In an interview with The Sun back in 2012, she admitted: "I’m not going to look. I’ll be in the bar by that point. I wish I hadn’t shown so much flesh but I was young and I knew I had things to prove."

Three years later, in an interview with Yahoo!, she revealed that she is still "haunted" by the scene thanks to some overzealous fans asking her to sign her autograph on photographs from the revealing scene. (I literally don't know how some people can be so forward.)

"There’s a photo of it as well that someone has lifted from a still of the film, and that photo gets passed around too," she said. "I’m like ’No! I didn’t mean for it to be a photograph that I would end up seeing still 17 years later.'"

"Why do people do this? People ask me to sign that [photo] a lot," she revealed.

Winslet then added: "I don’t sign that [picture]. It feels very uncomfortable. Why would you do that?"

The star also revealed after the movie was released that she would never work with James Cameron ever again -- unless the price was right.

"He has a temper like you wouldn’t believe," she told The Guardian. "You’d have to pay me a lot of money to work with Jim again."

The two would eventually work together again on the 2022 movie Avatar: The Way of Water.
