Kathy Griffin has provided an update on her lung cancer diagnosis following her surgery to partially remove one of her lungs.
On Monday, August 2, the My Life on the D-List star took to social media to share that she has lung cancer - despite never having smoked. She also revealed that she would be undergoing surgery to "have half of my left lung removed".
The following day, the 60-year-old comedian successfully underwent the procedure, telling her 2 million Twitter followers: "Wow! I’m so grateful for all the love you guys are sending me. My cancer surgery went well yesterday. Phew."
She then went on to reference an interview she did with ABC's Nightline earlier this week, in which she touched on a range of difficult topics.
Griffin added: "I was very nervous about opening up on @Nightline re my suicidal ideations and my prescription pill addiction. This keychain means the world to me. One day at a time."
In her Nightline interview on ABC, she spoke about the irony in the fact that just over a year ago, "all I wanted to do was die. And now, all I wanna do is live."
When Griffin initially shared the news of her diagnosis, she wrote: "I've got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I'm going to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lunch cancer even though I've never smoked!"
She continued: "The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully, no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing.
"I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh, and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.
"Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been ever more serious."
The comic concluded her post by urging her fans to "stay up to date on your medical checkups. It’ll save your life."
