Keanu Reeves has responded to bizarre comments Matthew Perry made about him in the Friends star's new memoir.

In excerpts from his new memoir - Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing - 53-year-old Perry repeatedly questioned why Keanu Reeves "still walks among us", when other actors Perry believes are "original thinkers" have sadly died.

One excerpt, which was published by Page Six last month, reads: "Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?"

"River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down," Perry adds.

Perry starred alongside Phoenix back in 1988 in the Friends star's first movie, A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon. The two are said to have become good friends while working together.

Perry then references Reeves a second time while discussing the untimely death of SNL legend Chris Farley.

After recalling how he "punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall" after learning about the untimely death of SNL legend Chris Farley, Perry again writes: "Keanu Reeves walks among us."

Considering about beloved The Matrix star is among, well... everyone, Perry's comments did not go down well on social media and the sitcom legend eventually issued an apology for mentioning Reeves in such a way.

Speaking to Deadline, Perry attempted to offer clarification for his comments, telling the outlet: "I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead."

Now, a source who is reportedly close to Reeves has told Us Magazine that the John Wick star was taken aback by Perry's comments.

"Keanu thought the comments came out of left field," the source told Us Weekly Friday when questioned on Perry's memoir.

And following the social media backlash and subsequent apology, the source then told the publication: "It’s kind of backfired on Matthew anyway, which is why he had to apologize."

I, like many, am very happy that Reeves still "walks among us".
