Kelly Clarkson has postponed her Las Vegas residency to "be fully present" for her ex-husband as he battles an illness.

The Grammy-winning artist shares two children with Brandon Blackstock - River Rose, 10, and Remington Alexander, eight.

On Wednesday, August 6, Clarkson took to Instagram to share a heartfelt statement announcing the postponement of her remaining August “Studio Sessions” shows in Vegas.

While the singer is typically private about her personal life, she opened up about the difficult circumstances facing her family.

“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she wrote.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”

The couple was married for seven years before separating in June 2020. Their divorce was finalized in 2022, following what Clarkson described as a deeply challenging period in her life.

In a candid interview with PEOPLE in January 2024, Clarkson reflected on the emotional toll the breakup had taken.

“The level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming,” she said, referring to her 2023 album Chemistry.

Just months earlier, Clarkson had already been forced to cancel shows at the last minute due to vocal strain. Hours before her opening night at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, she shared that the intense prep and rehearsals had taken a toll on her voice.

“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,” she wrote at the time.

“The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage.”

More recently, the singer got candid again during an appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, where she addressed some of the challenges of co-parenting with Blackstock.

“There’s a lot that I keep in because … co-parenting is fun,” she said with a hint of sarcasm.

“It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?”

We hope that Blackstock has a swift recovery.
