Kelly Rowland has spoken out about her viral red carpet moment where she was captured on camera getting into a heated altercation with a female security guard.

The incident unfolded at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday (May 21), and saw the 42-year-old singer and actress become frustrated with a female staffer.

Rowland has been attending the premiere of Christophe Honoré's comedy Marcello Mio and was seen smiling and waving to fans before the mood turned sour.

At one point, it looks like the security guard accidentally stepped on Rowland’s stunning red dress, but the singer shrugged off the mishap, telling her: "Don’t worry" - according to lip-reading expert Jeremy Freeman.

However, after the security guard appears to say something back to Rowland, the Destiny's Child alum turns around and starts pointing her finger at the guard, who continues to keep her hand raised in an effort to move Rowland into the venue.

Speaking to Page Six, Freeman claimed that Rowland told the guard: “Don’t talk to me like that. Don’t talk to me like that," before adding: "You’re not my mother. I told you not to talk to me like that.”

Now, Rowland has spoken out about the incident in an emotional interview with the Associated Press on Thursday (May 23).

When asked about the confrontation, a teary-eyed Rowland told the agency: “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened.

"I have a boundary and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it."

Rowland then suggested that the way she was treated could have been down to how she looks, saying: "There other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off."

"I stood my ground," she added.

A source told the Daily Mail that the quarrel allegedly broke out after the security staff at the event - who were tasked with helping the attendees navigate the packed red carpet - were being "aggressive and Kelly was trying to ignore it".

The source added: “By the time [Rowland] got to the last woman, she had had it because she scolded Kelly and told her to move when she was trying to wave to fans and help the paparazzi get their shot."

Fans on social media have been incredibly supportive of Rowland following the video going viral, with one person writing: "I can tell it hurts her to be treated that way. People don’t talk about how it’s painful to HAVE to stand your ground."

"What a classy response and statement to such an infuriating experience," a second added.

And a third commented: "Painful to see the hurt in her eyes. Glad she stood up for herself. It takes a toll being strong."
