Kid Cudi was praised online after performing on Saturday Night Live while wearing a floral dress. The rapper performed alongside Carey Mulligan who was making her hosting debut on the popular show on Saturday, April 10th.
During one performance, Kid Cudi, stepped out wearing a maxi-length floral dress, in a move that was deemed to be paying tribute to the late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain, who passed away almost 27 years ago to the day.
Cobain died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, on April 6th 1994. His passing was ruled a suicide, at the age of 27.
Kid Cudi has a tattoo dedicated to the Smells Like Teen Spirit singer, and he has previously sampled Cobain's Montage of Heck demo, Burn the Rain, on Kids See Ghosts.
He also paid his respects to fallen SNL star, Chris Farley, by wearing a t-shirt with Farley's image on as he sang the song, Tequila Shots. Farley died of a drug overdose aged 33 in 1997.
"Kid Cudi is serving in this floral dress! I know that's right," wrote one Twitter user.
Another added: "It’s on sight if I see people mocking Kid Cudi for wearing a dress"
"If you’re out here hating on Kid Cudi because he was wearing a dress, grow up and understand that it’s not only a homage to Kurt Cobain but also him speaking loudly for everyone to be and love themselves for who they are," a third continued.
A fourth wrote, "Kid Cudi pulling the ultimate Kurt Cobain tribute on #SNL on the week of this death. @KidCudi all about love and suicide prevention and awareness!!!"
Kid Cudi, 37, also shared a photo of a sign that read, "Watch your head Farley," which is displayed in the SNL backstage area.
His latest album, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen landed back in December of last year.
