The One Direction star died at the age of 31 on October 16, having fallen from a third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The singer suffered internal and external hemorrhaging, meaning he was tragically unable to be saved.

A toxicology report has now been shared as the star's body has been released to be repatriated to the UK, which confirms the star was "not fully conscious" when he fell.

According to reports from People, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 14 confirmed that the results of the toxicology test are in and that they have been communicated to the One Direction star's family.

The report states that in the 72 hours before his death, Payne had traces of "alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants" in his body, according to the press release translated from Spanish.

It also stated: "This conclusion was reached after the complete toxicology tests on urine, blood and vitreous humour."

The results of a partial autopsy released on October 21 also stated that Payne had "multiple substances in his system" at the time of his death, as reported by ABC News.

The same press release also confirmed that three people had been arrested and charged in connection with the singer's death.

The suspects, who have not yet been named, are charged with abandonment of a person followed by death as well as supply and facilitation of narcotics.

The release added that "illicit conduct was discovered from which three people were charged with the crimes," following Payne's tragic death.

According to the report, one of the suspects "is the person who accompanied the artist on a daily basis during his stay in the city of Buenos Aires," the second suspect is said to be a hotel employee accused of supplying Payne with cocaine, and the third is an alleged "drug supplier".

The release also stated that prosecutors ruled out "self-harm of any kind and/or physical intervention by third parties" as contributing factors in his death.

Payne's death was confirmed to be from "multiple trauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" as a result of the fall, according to a forensic doctor.

The report also concluded that the 'Strip That Down' star was "not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable decrease or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall."

It had previously been reported that Payne may have been unconscious or semi-conscious when he fell from the balcony, with the New York Post reporting that the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 16 said that the position of Payne’s body on the ground, as well as his injuries, indicated he “did not adopt a reflex posture to protect himself” and that he may have “fallen while in a state of semi or total unconsciousness."

His body has since been released to his family for repatriation to the UK where they will hold his funeral.
