Lil Nas X has responded to the backlash he has faced following the release of his new music video for his track, 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)'.

Since releasing the music video for the single to YouTube five days ago, it has already amassed over 54.1 million views.

Per Yahoo News, the video contains both religious and satanic imagery in order to convey the rapper's coming to terms with his sexuality.

After strolling around the Garden of Eden and heaven, the 21-year-old rapper can be seen sliding down a pole into hell, where he gives Satan a lapdance. This is intended to be a metaphor for people telling the rapper he would go to hell for being gay.

However, the video has caused outraged among religious groups, conservatives, and parents, as you can see from the following tweets:

Oh boy.

Well, Lil Nas X wasn't going to take the criticism lying down, and has since posted several tweets addressing the backlash.

In response to a Twitter user saying Lil Nas X is part of a "system", the rapper wrote to his 6 million followers: "there was no system involved. i made the decision to create the music video. i am an adult. i am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. that is your job. [sic]"

In a second tweet, the rapper writes: "i literally sing about lean & adultery in old town road. u decided to let your child listen. blame yourself. "

He added in another tweet: "there is a mass shooting every week that our government does nothing to stop. me sliding down a cgi pole isn’t what’s destroying society."

He's also quite happily poking fun at those unhappy with his recent work:

In a candid tweet posted on March 27, the rapper also addressed his critics, saying: "i spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the s**t y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay. so i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves. [sic]"

Lil Nas X is also facing huge backlash from his so called "Satan Shoes", which he released on Monday to help promote his new single.

The modified Nike Air Max 97s sneakers not only contain demonic imagery, but also a drop of human blood in the sole.

The Brooklyn-based designers behind the sneakers, MSCHF, are currently facing a lawsuit from Nike over claims that they have infringed on the brand's copyright.

It should be mentioned that the sneakers sold out in a minute and Lil Nas X's new single is sitting at number one in the US charts.
