In the latest development of the never-ending saga that is Miley Cyrus' love life, it appears that Lindsay Lohan has thrown her hat into the ring. The former Disney star has taken issue with the singer's latest paramour - more specifically, the fact that he's chosen to date Cyrus.

Cyrus started dating 22-year-old Cody shortly after she split from her husband of eight months, Liam Hemsworth, and just after she ended things with actress, Kaitlynn Carter.

Australian musician, Simpson, however, dated Lohan's younger sister, Aliana Lohan last year, and this is what Lohan took issue with. In a since deleted post, the 33-year-old made her opinion on the matter clear.

The Freaky Friday star uploaded a picture of Simpson walking alongside her sister, Aliana, and she captioned it: "When you realise you failed. And you settle for less @codysimpson," followed by a shocked face emoji and an anchor icon.

"Family is everything you won the masked singer but you lost your future," she added.

Cyrus and her husband of eight months, Liam Hemsworth, decided to split back in August.

According to Entertainment Tonight, a representative for the couple said: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers."

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."

Liam cited "irreconcilable differences" in his divorce from the 26-year-old, which is reportedly to be finalised next month.

Miley has previously denied allegations of infidelity on her end, saying "I am proud to say, I am simply in a different place from where I was when I was younger. I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating."
