She captioned the post: "practice safe detoxification y’all", and the video has already amassed over 830,000 views in a day.
Lizzo also writes at the start of the video: "Disclaimer: I was practicing safe detox methods [with] a nutritionist. Do not try without research."
However, despite stating that she entered into the "safe" detox with advice from a nutritional expert, many people have taken to the comments section to a slam her decision to share the video.
One Tiktoker commented: "Please don't promote this!!!!"
Meanwhile, another typed: "Nooo not queen lizzo with the detox bs".
And after sharing a video showing off the results from her detox (below), Lizzo continued to receive comments from people asking her to stop promoting "diet culture".

One Instagrammer commented: "Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover it. I’m all for people doing what they feel is right for their body, including losing weight if that’s what they want.
"But to promote an obvious crash diet after making a name for yourself by being confident and proud of what you can DO instead of what you look like? This ain’t it."
Another added: "Oh Lizzo [...] come on girl, you’ve always promoted body positivity and a healthful mindset. Smoothie cleanses are shown to be dangerous and they don’t even work. Please don’t go down the diet promotions road."
However, many other of Lizzo's fans have repeated the fact that the singer took the appropriate precautions before embarking on her health kick, and said that she can do whatever she likes with her own body.

In response to the social media storm, Lizzo posted another video in which she said she would normally feel "afraid and ashamed" to share the detox "because I feel like as a big girl, people expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for a dramatic weight loss, and that is not the case."

Lizzo then provided her reasoning behind the cleanse, adding: "In reality, November stressed me the f**k out. I drank a lot, I ate a lot of spicy things and things that f*cked my stomach up. I wanted to reverse it and get back to where I was.
"I'm so proud of myself. I'm proud of my results. My sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f**king body, my f**king skin, the whites of my eyes, I feel and look like a bad b**ch and that’s it.
Lizzo added: "I’m a big girl who did a smoothie detox and I wanted to share it with you guys."
Whatever you think about detoxes and cleanses, let's not forget that Lizzo faces scrutiny over her body on a daily basis. But it is her body, and people should remember that before commenting.
