It's been a whole seven years since Lorde released her debut album and since her single 'Royals' catapulted the then-teen to international stardom after topping charts all over the world.
When 'Royals' first started playing on the radios worldwide, it received widespread critical acclaim - as did the young starlet.
In recent years, however, the now-24-year-old New Zealand-born pop star has been absent from the spotlight - and it's been by choice.
In fact, it has been more than two years since Lorde deleted the majority of her Instagram pics and tweets.
Per News.com.au, since May of 2018, the 'Yellow Flicker Beat' hitmaker has only had three photos on her Instagram account and has kept only two of her tweets which were from 2017.
According to the outlet, last month, she was seen in public for the first time in almost a year as she was pictured on a walk around Auckland with her Universal Music executive boyfriend Justin Warren.
There was a time when two-time Grammy-winning artist regularly appeared in photos with other famous stars - most notably her good friend Taylor Swift.
And now in a rare interview, Lorde is finally opening up about why she essentially vanished from the public eye and social media.
Speaking to friend and actress Cazzie David - Larry David's daughter - on Wednesday (November 18), Lorde explained all for a piece published in Interview magazine:
"Part of what made me peace out on social media, apart from feeling like I was losing my free will, was the massive amounts of stress I was feeling about our planet, about systemic racism, and about police brutality in this country."
Social media isn't always a negative platform - in fact, for this woman, it proved quite the opposite:

Lorde then asked David how she manages to cope with using social media on a regular basis.
"I don’t know how you, someone I would describe as being reasonably neurotic, cope with that. How do you deal with having front-row seats to the hellfire?" Lorde asked.
"[It] destroys the part of my brain that can make work… How do you balance needing to have your finger on the pulse while also not going insane?"
About a month before she deleted most of her Instagram posts, Lorde sparked backlash when she shared a snap of a bathtub with the caption, "And iiii will always love you,"
However, some of Lorde's followers found the caption insensitive, as Whitney Houston - who famously sang the lyrics - also died after drowning in a bathtub.
Following the outrage, Lorde (real name: Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor) quickly deleted the photo and apologized.
"Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote," she wrote. "I’m so sorry for offending anyone - I hadn’t even put this together I was just excited to take a bath. I’m an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again."
Lorde hasn't released any new albums since her second studio album Melodrama in 2017.
