Madonna has called out Instagram after the social media platform took photos of her recent risqué shoot.

On Thursday, the 63-year-old pop icon shared photos of herself posing on her bed, wearing black lingerie on Instagram. In several photos, she used a heart emoji to cover up her left nipple.

This comes after the 'Material Girl' singer shared the same photos the evening prior, but without the emoji. In her most recent post, she explained that the original had been taken down as it had violated Instagram's policies.

"I'm reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification….. The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed," she wrote in the caption.

"It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman's body to be shown except a nipple. As if that is the only part of a woman's anatomy that could be sexualized. The nipple that nourishes the baby!

"Can’t a mans nipple be experienced as erotic ??!! And what about a woman’s ass which is never censored anywhere. Giving thanks that I have managed to maintain my sanity through four decades of censorship…… sexism……ageism and misogyny," she continued.

The songstress also took aim at Thanksgiving: "Perfectly timed with the lies we have been raised to believe about the pilgrims peacefully breaking bread with the Native American Indians when they landed on Plymouth Rock! God bless America [sic]," she added.

According to Instagram's guidelines, users must ''respect everyone on Instagram; don’t spam people or post nudity''.

"We don’t allow nudity on Instagram, with some exceptions, like photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too," the guidelines read.

Madonna is known for her risqué use of fashion, and has previously shared topless or partially nude selfies on Instagram. Back in April, the songstress posted a series of photos of herself, topless.

"Why do I have to Explain Everything..." she captioned the post.
