Margot Robbie has spoken about how "mortified" she felt while filming her upcoming movie, Barbie, referring to it as one of the most "humiliating moments" of her life.
The 32-year-old Aussie actor stars as the eponymous character in Greta Gerwig's forthcoming comedy, based on the iconic plastic doll, alongside Ryan Gosling, who portrays the Ken doll - AKA Barbie's boyfriend.
At the end of June, paparazzi photos of the two actors circulated online after they were seen filming at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
In the pictures, the pair were seen clad in neon yellow rollerblades and knee pads. Robbie wore a multicolored unitard and Gosling donned a gilet and shorts.
On Monday, September 19, the Suicide Squad star spoke about the images when she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“I can’t tell you how mortified we were,” she admitted. “We look like we’re laughing and having fun, but we were dying on the inside.”
“I was like, ‘This is the most humiliating moment of my life,’” she added.
When she was asked by the host if she had any idea that the snaps would go viral, Robbie said: “No. I mean, I knew we had some exteriors to shoot in LA. I knew ok, once you’re doing exteriors, you’re going to get papped.
“There’s probably going to be a little crowd of people who are going to take notice because we stand out a little in those outfits,” she joked.
“So I knew there was going to be a little attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was like mad, it was like hundreds of people watching.”
Some days later, a video of Robbie speaking as her character Barbie for the first time, was also shared online.
In June, Gosling's partner Eva Mendes shared her response to the official first peek of him in character, writing: “So. F. Funny. So. F. Good. So F excited for you to see this…#Thatsmyken.”
The ensemble cast will also include Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Sex Education actors Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa, and more.
Barbie is set to be released in theaters on July 21, 2023.
