Mariah Carey's fans have been left stunned after learning that her mom also possessed a remarkable singing voice.
As previously reported, the 'Hero' singer announced over the weekend that her heart has been left "broken" after losing both her 87-year-old mother, Patricia, and her 63-year-old sister, Alison, on the same day.
In a statement to PEOPLE, the 'Fantasy' singer said in a statement: "My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
As of this writing, no additional information regarding Patricia and Alison's deaths has been shared.
Following the heartbreaking news, tributes for the family poured in on social media, including videos of Patricia singing alongside her daughter. One particular video shows the mom and daughter performing on Carey's Christmas special on ABC, as they sing 'O Come All Ye Faithful/ Hallelujah Chorus'.
After the resurfaced videos were widely circulated on platforms like X, fans shared their amazement for Patricia's voice, with one person writing: "Wow! did not know her mom could sing like that."
A second added: "Wow, I never knew her mom could sing like this. This explains where MiMi got her voice from. But so scary to see her lose her mother & sister at the same time, my condolences to her."
"Mariah Carey's mom could really, really sing," a third added.
Another fan tweeted: "I've watched this about five times. I saw this on TV when it aired and I was floored. I didn't know Mariah's mom was an opera singer. They had a complicated and contentious family but blessed nonetheless."
"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother's."
