Per The New York Post, he passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 65 in Dunellen, New Jersey.

Born on April 3, 1959, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dobies initially pursued athletics, earning a football scholarship to Delaware Valley University.

There, he contributed to the school's first Middle Atlantic Conference football championship in 1980, wearing number 11 and playing free safety. His athleticism extended beyond the field; he competed in several triathlons and offered personal training to many.

Transitioning to acting in the late 1990s, Dobies secured his first on-screen role in the drama series Fame L.A. in 1997.

He gained prominence portraying Dr. Noah Chase on CBS's Guiding Light in 2000. From 2003 to 2005, he captivated audiences as District Attorney Daniel Colson on ABC's One Life to Live, a character entangled in complex storylines that sparked discussions about representation in media.

His passion for theater led him to star as Bruce Niles in the 2004 off-Broadway revival of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart at The Public Theater in New York City.

An ardent Philadelphia Eagles fan, Dobies cherished the team's victories, notably sharing their first Super Bowl win with his son seven years ago—a moment that deeply moved him.

He is survived by his three children: Francesca, 27; Olivia, 24; and Robert, 21. He also leaves behind his mother, Suzanne; brother, Paul; and sister, Sandy. His obituary fondly remembers him as "a loving father, accomplished athlete, and talented actor".
