Martha Stewart has sparked backlash on social media after sharing a picture of her using "a small iceberg" to chill her cocktails.
While the 82-year-old is often praised for her expertise in the kitchen, she has now been criticized after sharing a deck of photos on Instagram on Monday (August 28) from her expedition from Iceland to Greenland.
Some snaps show the icebergs in their natural state and others show two chunks of ice on a kitchen cart, ready to be made into cocktails. However, what angered fans the most was the TV personality adding a picture of her smiling while using a "small iceberg" to chill her alcoholic beverage.
"End of the first zodiac cruise from @swanhelleniccruises into a very beautiful fjord on the east coast of Greenland," Stewart wrote in the caption. "We actually captured a small iceberg for our cocktails tonight."
Soon after sharing insights into her time on the ship, many of her followers flooded her comment section to condemn her use of the ice blocks. One person wrote: "Hey Martha, I really love what you do for the most part, but an iceberg? When they’re melting? When the planet is on fire? It’s not a good look."
Another said: "Hope [you're] seeing the bigger picture and can influence for the better! Our grandkids may not see icebergs……"
A third commented: "Global warming and melting ice caps but we need glacier ice for cocktails?! Talk about tone [deaf]. Been a fan for years but I’ve seen enough caviar lately as I struggle to buy groceries that I’m out."
A fourth shared: "So as the climate warms due to the profits of a couple of thousand people, billionaires vacation to the melting icebergs, scoop them up, and use them to keep their cocktails cold. That sounds like a line from a dystopian novel. Can’t make this s*** up lol."
Meanwhile, some people defended the best-selling author from the negative comments, with one user remarking: "All these haters would prefer Martha to use water that would [have] come from that iceberg and bottled it and then refreeze it in an electrical freezer where it was stored for a few days...."
A second added: "This is normal on those excursions. The ice is already floating, not part of the ice mass, it is slowly melting in the ocean. Every tour company does it. We did it in Alaska and Patagonia. We did NOT disturb the glaciers."
Stewart first started posting about her voyage on Instagram on Sunday (August 27), leaving a short review about her experience crossing the Denmark Straits to get to Greenland.
"We are spending six days learning about the largest island in the world!!!" Stewart wrote in her caption. "The crossing is a bit rough. And it is taking more than 30 hours. Food is delicious! Crew is very friendly and knowledgeable!"
Swan Hellenic Cruises - the company that runs the cruise that Stewart is on - has a page about their commitment to sustainability on their website.
They stated that they care "deeply about our planet's rich environmental and cultural heritage," and that a trip with the company is "one of the most sustainable choices for anyone looking to explore our beautiful planet."
