Matthew McConaughey once again reaffirms his view that the 'illiberal left' are hypocrites
Matthew McConaughey has doubled-down on his view that "illiberal left" individuals that mock republications are hypocrites.
During an interview with ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (December 15), the 51-year-old Interstellar star once again reaffirmed his views that the "extreme left and the extreme right" illigitimize one another, as well as sharing his thoughts on cancel culture.
Speaking to hosts Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid, the actor said: "You need liberals. What I don’t think we need is the illiberals and what I don’t think that some liberals see is that they’re often being cannibalized by the illiberals."

The Academy Award-winner added: "There are extremes on both sides that I think are unfair, that I don't think are the right place to be.
"The extreme left and the extreme right completely illegitimise the other side. The liberal and the conservative side… or they exaggerate that side's stance into an irrational state and that's not fair when either side does that."
McConaughey then briefly touched on how this had led to the online practice of "cancel culture", adding:
"Where the waterline's gonna land on this freedom of speech and what we allow and what we don’t on this cancel culture… is a very interesting place in society trying to figure out because we haven’t found the right spot.
The Dallas Buyers Club star hit headlines last week following his appearance on Russell Brand's podcast Under the Skin, where he slammed those condemning Trump voters for refusing to accept the result of the 2020 election - when many people found themselves in a similar position when Hilary Clinton lost in 2016.
When asked if McConaughey had noticed a "condemnation" of everyday voters by his Hollywood colleagues, the actor said: "There are a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize, and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent."
McConaughey said that this view resulted in people being "in absolute denial" when Trump was first elected to office in November 2016.

Brand agreed, stating: "[There is] a kind of offhandedness, like, 'Oh, they're dumb, they're voting for Brexit, they're voting for Trump.'
He said: "I don't like it, and I don't like to hear it."

McConaughey said that following Joe Biden’s projected presidential victory, Trump supporters have been left in denial because "they've been fed fake news".
"[Now] it looks like Biden's our guy," he said, adding; "Now you've got the right that's in denial, cause their side has fake news. And I understand, they've been fed fake news.
"No one knows what the hell to believe, right? So they're putting down their last bastion of defense."

The actor explained that the "other two sides of the political aisle are so far apart" and that the left's mocking of Trump supporters will only cause resentment between the two sides to grow.
"Don't tab that gotcha at the end," he said. "The left will have to understand the science of 'meet you in the middle'."
