Fans of Perry have been left shocked by the tragic news and have since flooded social media to commemorate the actor's memory by sharing old videos from his career - including a now-heartbreaking interview detailing how he wanted to be remembered after his death.

Speaking in an interview with Tim Power came as part of the press tour for his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which hit shelves last year and saw the actor courageously open up about his battles with addiction.

When asked how he'd like to be remembered, Perry said: "I would like to be remembered as somebody who lived well, loved well, was a seeker and his paramount thing is that he wants to help people...That's what I want."

His heartfelt response was met with applause and cheers from the audience at the time, and now fans are reacting to the clip after learning of his tragic passing.

"That’s very, very, very, sad. He struggled for years with alcoholism, he inspired me and countless 1000s of others who struggled with alcohol. May he RIP, thoughts & prayers are with his kids, family & friends," one user on X wrote.

Another user commented: "He really is loved well by many. He did help many people by just being Chandler Bing. It will take time for me to heal knowing he is no more. Rest in peace, Matt."

A third person shared: "Rest in peace, Matthew Perry. If the joys and laughter from watching you on Friends was anything to go by, then yes, you did indeed help me. You did indeed help people. Thank you for your light."
