Meek Mill has apologized to Vanessa Bryant over a "disrespectful" and "insensitive" song lyric about her late husband Kobe Bryant.
The lyric in question reads: "This b**ch I'm f**ckin' always tell me that she love but she ain't ever showed me. Yeah, and if I ever lack, I'm goin' out with my chopper, it be another Kobe".
After it was leaked, Vanessa, 38 took to her Instagram Story to call out the rapper, 33, for his insensitivity.
"Dear @meekmill, I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful," she wrote yesterday (February 22). "Period. I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this.
"If you are a fan, fine, there's a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact."
The Dreams And Nightmares rapper has now taken to Twitter to respond to the backlash the line in the unreleased song received.
"I apologized to her in private earlier today, not to the public," Meek tweeted. "Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman! If you care about someone grieving change the subject!"
Despite saying he wasn't going to respond to the "viral moment," in his apology tweet, he wrote shortly before: "I don't think we on the same signal y'all .. I don't see what y'all see...
"I be looking at the net laughing like I did whet…I say random s**t all day on social ... it becomes a trend to hate on me every once in a while but I feed off that s**t ima beast literally."
He added in another tweet: "Ima stay on this 100m chase to feed the kids ima dip from the crowd and stay in the vip."
Kobe and Gianna, the 13-year-old daughter the NBA star shared with Vanessa, along with seven others, died in a tragic helicopter crash on January 26, 2020.
They had been flying from Orange County to a youth basketball tournament at Kobe's Mamba Sports Academy in Ventura County when the helicopter was confronted with thick fog in the San Fernando Valley.
