In her as-of-yet brief time being part of the royal family, Meghan Markle has been the subject of a fair few "scandals". There were a few minor incidents that caused a bit of a fuss (e.g. Meghan bearing her shoulders at an official event, or forgetting to cross her legs in the presence of the queen), and, of course, a couple of serious allegations from members of her family (her sister has made several claims about her sister's treatment of their father, and her brother infamously penned a whole letter to Prince Harry begging him to call off their marriage) - but it seems that the duchess can't avoid slipping up in front of the press in one way or another.
Just this week, in fact, the former Suits actress made another faux pas. Thankfully, this one was not quite as serious as some of the previous issues she's faced - but it's still ruffled some feathers amongst pushy royalists.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, during Meghan's first public appearance in over a month. She and her husband, Prince Harry, attended a special gala performance of the musical Hamilton, where they met with ambassadors for a charity that helps children and young people affected by HIV in southern Africa.
For the performance, the Duchess of Sussex wore a beautiful tuxedo dress (perhaps in slight defiance of the rule that prevents her from wearing an actual tuxedo), but there was one small problem with her outfit: her pantyhose. Or, rather, her lack thereof.
Yes, Meghan decided to ditch the tights and rock up to the even with bare legs - which is apparently a big no-no if you're part of the royal family.
According to royal expert, Victoria Arbiter: "You never see a royal without their nude stockings. I would say that's really the only hard, steadfast rule in terms of what the Queen requires."
Arbiter made these statements last year before Meghan and Harry were married.
"I think we'll see a gradual change in Meghan's style over time to conform to those [royal] elements," she also added at the time. "But at the same time, I think what everyone loves about her is her own personal unique style. Hopefully, she'll be able to find the balance."
Her prediction has sort of come true, as the former suits star has definitely adopted a slightly more conservative style in the past year or so - but she's clearly still letting her rebellious side shine through whenever she can.
But, really, who cares if Meghan goes out with bare legs every now and then? It seems needlessly archaic to insist that she stays covered-up all the time, especially when the outfit she was wearing wasn't at all revealing or "indecent", as some people might be tempted to say.
This is 2018, guys! If the duchess wants to flounce about with no stockings on, she should totally go for it. In fact, I think she should push the boat out further - perhaps don a onesie or one of those inflatable dinosaur costumes. Come on Meghan, really go for it next time!
