Meghan Markle has reportedly filed a complaint to ITV about Piers Morgan's response to her interview with Oprah.

ITV announced on Tuesday (March 9) that Morgan was stepping down as a host of the British talk show Good Morning Britain after six years of presenting.

His decision to leave came after he received widespread backlash for his comments about Markle, amusing her of lying about the state of her mental health.

While discussing Markle's revelation that she had considered taking her own life as a senior member of the Royal Family, Morgan said that he "didn't believe a word" she said.

"I wouldn't believe it if she read me a weather report," he said.

As per the Independent, ITV was slammed for airing these comments on television at the same time as running their Britain Get Talking mental health campaign. The mental health charity Mind also said they were "disappointed and concerned" by the comments.

Now, The Guardian and The Telegraph have reported that the Duchess of Sussex has submitted a formal complaint to the TV network about Morgan's comments.

According to PA Media, the Duchess of Sussex is concerned about how the host's remarks could impact the issue of mental health generally and those experiencing their own problems.

An ITV spokesperson refused to deny the reports to the news outlets, however, they refused to elaborate further.

During the bombshell interview, Meghan said she was suicidal while working as a senior royal, but the Palace prevented her from seeking treatment out of fears that it "wouldn't be good for the institution."

"I just didn't want to be alive anymore," she told Oprah. "And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought."

Good Morning Britain returned to the screens of British audiences on Wednesday (March 10) and featured Susanna Reid presenting alongside Ranvir Singh.

Reid, while addressing the exit of her longstanding co-host, described Morgan as "an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster."

Morgan, meanwhile, tweeted to stay that he stands by his comments about Markle.

He wrote: "On Monday, I said I didn't believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I've had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don't. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I'm happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I'm off to spend more time with my opinions."
