Meghan Markle gave a subtle nod to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, in her first TV appearance since her groundbreaking Oprah interview.

Addressing the viewers of Saturday's Vax Live concert as part of a pre-recorded video message, Meghan paid tribute to her late mother-in-law by donning the $24,000 Cartier Tank watch that was given to Diana by her dad on her 21st birthday, per The Sun.

Speaking from her Montecito property, the Duchess of Sussex explained that women have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19.

She said: "The past year has been defined by communities coming together tirelessly and heroically to tackle Covid-19. We've gathered tonight because the road ahead is getting brighter, but it's going to take every one of us to find our way forward."

"As campaign chairs of Vax Live, my husband and I believe it’s critical that our recovery prioritizes the health, safety, and success of everyone - and particularly women, who have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic," she added.

The former Suits actress went onto explain that 5.5 million women have lost their jobs in the US since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, and that 47 million women and girls around the world will be forced into poverty.

She added: "Women, and especially women of color, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out."

Meghan, who gently cradled her baby bump throughout the short clip, then made reference to her unborn daughter that she and Harry are expecting. The pair's second child is set to arrive this summer, just over two years since they welcomed son Archie in May, 2019.

She went on: "My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world.

"When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and the support to lead us forward."

Meghan concluded: "Their future leadership depends on the decisions we make and the actions we take now to set them up, and set all of us up, for a successful, equitable, and compassionate tomorrow.

"We want to make sure that as we recover, we recover stronger. That as we rebuild, we rebuild together."

Vax Live, a concert with the aim of "reuniting the world" amid the ongoing vaccine rollout, aired on Saturday, May 8, after taking place the previous weekend.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were appointed as campaign chairs of the event, which saw performers such as Foo Fighters, Jennifer Lopez, and H.E.R, take to the stage.
