Meghan Markle has revealed why she is finally ready to talk ahead of the release of her and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah.

In a clip released by CBS, the Duchess of Sussex explains that she and Prince Harry were previously banned from telling their story to the talk show host by the palace - a decision she says, "wasn't my choice to make."

The 39-year-old went on to explain how she was prevented from speaking her mind during her time as a working royal, explaining: "It's really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes.

"I'm ready to talk. To be able to just make a choice on your own. And to be able to speak for yourself."

Meghan said that she struggled to go from having a "really independent life" to the "construct" of the Royal Family and that she is grateful that she and Harry now have the "ability to make our own choices."

In a teaser for the interview, Oprah recalls asking Meghan for an interview prior to her 2018 wedding, to which she said, "sorry it's not the right time."

Meghan responded: "I remember that conversation very well. I wasn't even allowed to have that conversation with you personally, right. There had to be people from the… sitting there."

She added: "We're on the other side of a lot of life experience that's happened and also we have the ability to make our own choices in a way I couldn't have said yes to you then. That wasn't my choice to make."

During the two-hour CBS special, the Sussexes are expected to make "shocking" revelations about the time they spent working as senior royals.

In a previous teaser trailer, Prince Harry referenced his late mother, Diana, and said that he was worried about "history repeating itself", with regards to Meghan and the British press.

As per the Metro, the interview is set to air in the US on Sunday and then on ITV in the UK on Monday.
