Michael Douglas, 76, has revealed that he was mistaken for his 18-year-old daughter's grandfather at her high school graduation.
The Basic Instinct star, who has been married to 51-year-old actress Catherine Zeta-Jones for nearly 21 years, recounted the faux pas on Kelly Clarkson's daytime talk show.
The awkward encounter saw a fellow parent at the recent graduation ceremony refer to 18-year-old Carys as Michael's "granddaughter".
He said on the show: "It was so wonderful, I’m so proud of her. But I gotta tell you Kelly, it’s a little rough when you’re going out the doors and the other parents are saying, ‘Oh congratulations, you must be so proud of your granddaughter’."
Michael recalls the blunder below:The actor then went on to say: "I said, ‘Well, I don’t know, man. Yeah, okay.’ I’m not gonna take it personal, they’re just trying to be nice."
Elsewhere in the interview, Michael told Kelly that he and the rest of his family had watched his daughter's graduation online due to social distancing measures.
Michael paid tribute to his teenage daughter on her graduation with a photo of their family.
He wrote in the caption: "Congratulations to Carys and the entire class of 2021! Your Mom and I are so proud of you! We love you so much and we are so excited for your future as the best is yet to come! Dad."
The Oscar-winning actor revealed in his interview with Kelly Clarkson that he and Catherine are dreading the day that the two of them become "empty nesters" - especially now that their older son Dylan, 20, has already left the family home.
"It’s scary," he admitted. "It really is. You look at each other and go, 'Well, it’s just you and me babe'."

Michael continued: "You forget how many conversations you sort of hide behind in terms of talking about your kids and what’s going on next and this and that, and then one day you just look at each other...
"We’re 20 years now, so all those good years of paying attention to each other are paying off now."
Michael and Catherine tied the knot back in 2000 and share Dylan and Carys, with the actor also being a father to his eldest child, Cameron Douglas, 42.
