For the last couple of years, Millie Bobby Brown has been absolutely everywhere. And as the phrase goes, if you haven't at least heard the name "Millie Bobby Brown", you must well and truly be living under a rock. Yep, she might still be a kid but she has made a huge splash in show business.

The teenager has portrayed the character Eleven in three hugely successful seasons of the Netflix original series, Stranger Things. From the outset, the precocious star has captivated millions of people all over the world with her moving portrayal of the character.

In any case, Millie turns 16 today and has taken to social media to post a special message commemorating the occasion.

Take a look at the video below:

Included in the post is a video containing a series of headlines criticizing the star, footage of her both in the spotlight and behind the scenes as well as home videos from when she was much younger.

The message is clear; she has had her fair share of criticism and has no qualms about standing up for herself.

In the caption, Millie emphasizes the importance of kindness in helping children to "grow and succeed".

She writes: "16 has felt like a long time coming. i feel like change needs to happen for not only this generation but the next. our world needs kindness and support in order for us children to grow and succeed. the last few years haven't been easy, I'll admit that. there are moments i get frustrated from the inaccuracy, inappropriate comments, sexualization, and unnecessary insults that ultimately have resulted in pain and insecurity for me. but not ever will i be defeated."

Millie continues: "ill continue doing what i love and spreading the message in order to make change. let's focus on what needs changing and I hope this video informs you on the things that go on behind the scenes of the headlines and flashing lights. dont worry I'll always find a way to smile ;) leggo 16."
