If you've already binge-watched season three of Stranger Things, you'll be pleased to hear that another Netflix fan favourite is set to return to our screens.
The acclaimed Netflix serial killer drama, Mindhunter, will return to the streaming platform nearly two years after the first season aired. Actress Charlize Theron teased in May that the second season would air on Netflix in August, and now co-executive producer, David Fincher, has confirmed the news, and revealed a date: August 16th.
Watch the trailer for Mindhunter season 1:The Gone Girl director announced the date during an interview with Elvis Mitchell on KCRW's The Treatment podcast, where he also disclosed that the Atlanta child murders, Charles Manson, and Son of Sam will be integral to the new episodes.
Fincher also revealed that director Andrew Dominik - responsible for The Assassination of Jesse James - was involved in the production of the second season.
"I got a call from Andrew Dominik who had seen the first season and said, 'I’d really like to do something with Season 2,'" the filmmaker said. "We brought him in. When God gives you a really great idea, take it. When we first sat down he said, 'What is it about this world that seems so American? There is something going on here.' I said the show is about narcissism. The show is about needing to be seen."
The upcoming episodes are set to pick up between 1979 and 1981, two years after the events of season one. They will mainly revolve around the Atlanta child murders, which saw the killing of at least 28 African-American children, teenagers and adults.
"Next year we're looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we'll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice," Fincher previously asserted. He added that music will continue to play an important role in the crime drama: "The music will evolve. It's intended to support what's happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons."
Given that the second season of Mindhunter was confirmed way back in November of 2017, it's certainly been a long time coming!
