Jack Black failed to impress viewers with his latest movie as it debuted with a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 54-year-old actor and comedian released his new movie, Borderlands, the cinematic adaptation of the popular video game series.

The star-studded cast includes Black as robot mascot Claptrap, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as mercenary Roland, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr Patricia Tannis.

Watch the Borderlands trailer below:

According to IMBD, the film's synopsis reads that Blanchett's character Lilith, who is an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, returns to her home planet, Pandora, and embarks on a mission to find Atlas’ missing daughter.

"Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits - Roland (Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral preteen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina's musclebound protector; Tannis (Curtis), the oddball scientist who's seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a wiseass robot," it states.

"Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora's most explosive secrets. The fate of the universe could be in their hands - but they'll be fighting for something more: each other," the synopsis concluded.

Fans have been highly anticipating the sci-fi action flick which comes amid the long wait for Borderlands 4.

However, despite the impressive cast, the film hasn’t gone down well with many critics as it debuted with a shocking 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

This means it sits at the bottom of the list for rated video game adaptations, debuting below some of the worst 2000s-era movies like Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, Blood Rayne, and Postal.

The film now has a 7% score on the Tomatometer and a 51% audience score, however, that is still not enough for some critics who have shared their brutal opinions on the platform.

Alison Foreman from IndieWire described it as "the definitive worst film" in director Eli Roth's career, while Toronto Star's Peter Howell gave the movie a 1/4 rating and slammed it, writing: "There are still many cinema turkeys headed our way before the year closes. But this sci-fi gobbler mixes inept directing, terrible writing, indifferent acting, and gawdawful CGI into such stupefying boredom, it feels like nothing could top it for badness."

The Evening Standard’s Vicky Jessop questioned: "Is Borderlands the worst film of the year? It’s definitely in contention – so laughably bad, in fact, that it feels like being catapulted back to a time when video game adaptations were a byword for mediocrity."

"This film, instead, is lazy bricolage, cobbled together by so-called creatives who appear not to care and by some who should clearly know better," Kevin Maher of Times penned.

The video game adaptation is Black's second film of 2024, following Kung Fu Panda 4 which grossed $193.6 million in the United States and Canada and $352.8 million in other territories after its March release.

The School of Rock star appeared at the movie's premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre, wearing a galaxy-inspired long-sleeved shirt with purple trousers and yellow trainers.

You can now watch Borderlands at your local theaters.
