Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has slammed Marilyn Manson in a new statement after the musician's former partner, Evan Rachel Wood, alleged that he groomed and abused her during their relationship.
In a statement issued to Pitchfork, the 55-year-old musician made reference to a passage from Manson's memoir, the Long Hard Road Out Of Hell.
In the passage in question, Manson purports that he and Reznor allegedly sexually and physically assaulted a helpless and intoxicated woman sometime in the 1990s.
Reznor wrote:
"I have been vocal over the years about my dislike of Manson as a person and cut ties with him nearly 25 years ago. As I said at the time, the passage from Manson’s memoir is a complete fabrication. I was infuriated and offended back when it came out and remain so today."
In a 2009 interview with Mojo, Reznor previously spoke about his feud with Manson, stating: "He is a malicious guy and will step on anybody’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol now rule his life and he’s become a dopey clown."
"Things got sh**** between us and I’m not blameless. The majority of it though was coming from a resentment guy who finally got out from under the master’s umbrella and was able to stab him in the back."
A number of women, including Manson's ex-fiancée Evan Rachel Wood, have alleged that he abused and groomed them over a period of years.
On Monday, January 1, the 33-year-old Westworld actress shared an official statement with her 911,000 Instagram followers, writing:
"The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson.
"He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.
"I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him before he ruins more lives.
"I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent."
Manson himself has denied the allegations in an official statement addressed to his 3.6 million followers on Instagram, writing:
"Obviously, my life and my art have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality.
"My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth."
According to Variety, Manson's record label, Loma Vista Recordings, has made the decision to sever ties with the artist as a result of the negative publicity provoked by the accusations.
Per Variety, in an official statement a spokesperson for the company wrote: "In light of today’s disturbing allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album, effective immediately.
"Due to these concerning developments, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects."
According to Deadline, Starz has also chosen to edit out footage of Manson's performance from an upcoming episode of American Gods.
A spokesperson stated: "Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove his performance from the remaining episode he is in, scheduled to air later this season. Starz stands unequivocally with all victims and survivors of abuse."
Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Shudder has pulled an episode of the horror anthology series Creepshow which featured Manson from syndication.
