OnlyFans sensation Sophie Rain is pushing back hard against a controversial proposal from a Republican candidate in Florida’s 2026 governor’s race — and the online feud is getting louder by the day.
At just 21 years old, Rain has become one of the site’s most recognizable and financially successful creators, claiming to have made $83 million since launching her account.
Now, she’s sparring with James Fishback, a GOP hopeful who wants to introduce what he’s calling a “sin tax” on OnlyFans creators.
GOP Candidate Wants to Hit OnlyFans Creators With a ‘Sin Tax’
James Fishback, currently running in the Republican primary to be Florida’s next governor, has made it clear he’s targeting the booming adult‑content platform.
He told NXR Studios that he supports a special tax on OnlyFans earnings because he believes the work itself is morally wrong.
“It is called a ‘sin tax’ because it is a sin,” he said.
“The purpose of the sin tax in economics is to disincentivize and deter a behavior.”
Fishback’s proposal goes beyond rhetoric — he wants to guarantee that all revenue from Florida’s 50 percent OnlyFans Tax will increase public school teacher pay and improve school lunches. The policy pitch frames the tax revenues as a booster for public education.
Fishback Publicly Criticizes OnlyFans Creators
In a string of statements, Fishback made his views on the platform — and who uses it — clear: “I don't want young women who could otherwise be mothers raising families, rearing children, I don't want them to be selling their bodies to sick men online.”
He doubled down with a moral critique aimed at male consumers of the platform: “I don't want young, impressionable men who have strayed from Christ, who have strayed from our Lord and savior to be told, and to be drawn into lust, and have their entire brain rewired.”
Sophie Rain Hits Back: ‘The Dumbest Thing I’ve Ever Heard Of’
Rain did not take Fishback’s comments lightly.
She told PEOPLE that his plan is “the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.” The creator also challenged the moral framing of the proposal.
She emphasized her personal faith and autonomy: “No one ever forced me to start an OnlyFans, it was MY decision, so I don't need a 31‑year‑old man telling me I can't sell my body online.”
And she strongly defended her spiritual standing: “I am a Christian, God knows what I am doing, and I know he is happy with me, that's the only validation I need.”
Rain says that because she hasn’t sinned, Fishback’s proposed tax doesn’t apply to her.
Creator Calls Out What She Sees as Hypocrisy
In a follow‑up video posted online, Rain criticized the focus on OnlyFans creators rather than larger corporations: “Targeting a group of individuals using their job to survive when there are multibillion dollar corrupt business that don't pay any taxes is the insane.”
She also had a blistering take on Fishback’s motives: “He is focusing on me because he needs the attention he can get at this point, which, honestly is sad if you think about it.
He is first condemning what I do, but at the same time picking me out of the bunch to start some type of viral beef. He thinks he can go after the biggest, but lets see how that turns out for him.”
And with a pointed jab at the candidate’s critics, Rain quipped: “Sounds like you subscribed and got buyers remorse after dropping your annual salary on an OF girl.”
