Michael Jackson’s youngest son, Blanket Jackson, earned his nickname for often appearing hidden or under a blanket when out in public, shunning the spotlight.

And even now, that is how he likes it.

Blanket Jackson made headlines around the world when, at just nine months old, dad Michael Jackson dangled the toddler over his hotel balcony in Berlin while greeting fans.

This caused a media frenzy, which led to Jackson apologizing for making a “terrible mistake”, per BBC News.

The child at the center of it was Prince Michael Jackson II - known as Blanket - who was born on February 21, 2002, through artificial insemination to Michael Jackson and a surrogate mother whose identity is not publicly known.

Blanket Jackson changed his name to Bigi in 2015 after he reportedly received lots of bullying over the nickname.

Bigi was just seven when his father died in 2009. Jackson left behind Bigi and his two elder siblings, Michael Joseph ‘Prince’ Jackson Jr and Paris Jackson. They were then raised by their grandmother Katherine Jackson.

Throughout his childhood, Bigi stayed away from the spotlight. He attended Buckley School in Sherman Oaks like his siblings had, however, Bigi seemed to have no interest in singing or dancing, as his late father had.

In an interview for Jacksonology TV channel, a young Bigi Jackson admitted: “No, I can't dance or sing.

“I know that he [Michael Jackson] sang great, but when I grow up, I want to be a director.”

Other hobbies Bigi is said to have enjoyed are martial arts and video games, according to The Mirror.

Although Bigi lives most of his life out of the public eye, he is still reportedly very close with his siblings, Prince, 25, and Paris, 24.

Bigi publically attended his older brother Prince’s graduation from Loyola Marymount University in 2019.

Last year, Bigi Jackson also made a rare TV appearance on the British breakfast show Good Morning Britain to talk about his father’s legacy and how he planned to use his position to tackle the problem of climate change.

Watch the clip here:

Speaking from the family’s Hayvenhurst estate, surrounded by his father’s memorabilia, Bigi said: “There’s a lot of history in this house and studio here, and that’s what he was all about.”

Despite the Hayvenhurst estate still belonging to the family, Bigi has since moved out, splashing $2.6 million on a new home in Calabasas, California, according to Today.

The youngest Jackson is still focused on raising awareness of climate change - Bigi told Good Morning Britain: “I do think it's important that we all know about it.

“I think we have some work to do, but our generation knows how important it is.”

Bigi has clearly worked hard to reinvent himself from his ‘blanket’ days and we wish him all the best in his future.
