Paris Hilton has hit the headlines in recent weeks after releasing an explosive new YouTube Originals documentary, This Is Paris.
In the candid documentary, the 39-year-old heiress opens up about the alleged abuse she suffered at a Utah boarding school she was sent to as a teenager.
The school was an institution for youngsters with behavioral problems - and one in which minors were, according to Paris, subject to abuse.

And it turns out that Drew Barrymore, who has also been the spotlight from a young age, has also had firsthand experience with these sorts of institutions.
Now, Paris has appeared on the 45-year-old actress' talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, in order to discuss their shared experiences.
Check out the touching moment Paris and Drew bonded over their difficult childhoods:

Drew revealed that she, like Paris, had also been kept in solitary confinement while at her school, which was a particularly poignant moment.
"We've known each other throughout our kid life, adult life — I've known you for many years," Drew revealed. "I feel like when it comes to an interviewer, maybe they haven't had the same experiences as you."

Barrymore continued:
"So they're coming at it from more of a journalistic, interested but slightly removed, place. Well, not this time.
"I've been where you've been. And watching your documentary — I mean, I don't know how many interviews and conversations I'm going to have on this show where I'm watching a mirror image of everything I've been through, as well.
"So I want to talk to you and have you know that I've had the people come and take me away.
"I've been locked up in solitary confinement, I've been in a place for lengthy periods of time — we're talking a year, a year and a half, plus. I haven't seen a kind of story like this really reflected out there very often that's one I recognize so deeply."

This Is Paris delves into a time where she, like Drew, was removed from her home, without her consent, and taken to Provo Canyon School in Utah.
The famous socialite alleged that she and other students at the school were forced to endure both physical and emotional abuse and were even given pills to take.

If Paris ever refused to take the pills, she would be taken to solitary confinement unclothed for up to 20 hours.
It should be noted, however, that the school changed ownership in August 2000, after Paris had already left the institution. In fact, in a statement to PEOPLE, the school said:
"We, therefore, cannot comment on the operations or patient experience prior to that time."

Initially, the film was never supposed to delve into her traumatic past, but the director of This Is Paris told the heiress: "This is so important, that you tell your story because you're going to help other survivors and people will want to come forward with theirs."
Paris explained: "It was very difficult for me because it wasn't something I ever wanted to talk about in public. I was embarrassed for people to know," she admitted.
"I now know that I shouldn't be ashamed, the people who work at these places who are abusing children are the ones who should be ashamed."
This Is Paris is now available on YouTube.
