Paul Rudd has surprised a young boy after his classmates refused to sign his yearbook.
Two months ago, mom Cassandra Cooper took to Facebook to share her anguish after her son, Brody Ridder, returned home from his middle school with his new yearbook.
However, rather than be full of kind messages from friends and teachers, many of Brody's pages remained bare - despite the 12-year-old asking as many people as he could to sign it.
"My poor son," the devastated mom wrote. "Doesn’t seem like it’s getting any better. 2 teachers and a total of 2 students wrote in his yearbook. Despite Brody asking all kinds of kids to sign it. So Brody took it upon himself to write to himself. My heart is shattered [...] Teach your kids kindness."
Brody did indeed write himself a message, telling himself: "Hope you make some more friends."
The heartbreaking post soon went viral on social media, with Cooper later telling the Washington Post that her son had endured excessive bullying at school.
The Post's story soon caught the attention of Ant-Man star Paul Rudd, who surprised Ridder with a FaceTime call.
In a clip of the conversation shared by Cooper, Rudd says: "I heard about you... I'm like, 'I gotta talk to this kid because this kid sounds like my kind of guy.'
"Likes chess, likes fencing, likes dinosaurs... am I right?"
"Well, I'm very excited that I get to talk to you and I get to meet you," Rudd added.
As well as talking to an actual Avenger, Ridder also received a handwritten letter from Rudd, along with some gifts.
"Dear Brody - it was great talking to you the other day," Rudd wrote in his letter. "It's important to remember that even when life is tough that things get better. There are so many people that love you and think you're the coolest kid there is - me being one of them! I can't wait to see all the amazing things you're going to accoplish. Your pal, Paul."
Russ also sent the youngster his own Ant-Man helmet - complete with the special message:
"To my food friend Brody, for when he takes on the world!"
And it's not just Rudd who was touched by Brody's story.
The cast of the hit musical Dear Evan Hansen have also sent Brody an invitation to see one of their Broadway productions of the show. They've even told him to bring his yearbook along for them to sign!
Brody's story also touched many of the older kids in his school, who came by his class to surprise him and sign his yearbook.
Stories like this really do restore your faith in humanity.
