Yesterday, Kanye West dropped perhaps the most bizarre twist in the story of 2020, when he announced that he would be running for president this year.
Writing to his 29.4 million Twitter followers, the 43-year-old announced his intentions on running a campaign between now and November in a bid to become POTUS.
Writing on Twitter, the hip-hop star wrote:
"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision, and building our future. I am running for president of the United States."
The announcement has already raised a lot of questions. Firtly, how would Kim Kardashian fair as a First Lady?
Second, after Tesla and SpaceX CEO announced his full support for West, would the tech boss make an ideal vice president?
And thirdly, is West simply submitting his name on the ballots as a means of pulling votes away from Joe Biden and therefore securing a win for Donald Trump?
However, perhaps the most bizarre twist is the fact that many of Kanye's critics are now calling for Taylor Swift - undoubtedly his biggest rival in the music industry - to also put her name forward for presidency.
Now, just in case you're one of the seven people who still need to be caught up on this celeb feud, let me just rewind for a second...
At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift won the award for 'Best Female Video' for her track 'You Belong With Me'. However, during her acceptance speech, rapper Kanye West jumped on stage, took the microphone, and told everybody that "Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!"

It was quite surreal and has become an infamous moment in pop culture.
Then, in 2016, Kanye released an album called The Life of Pablo, which featured a song called 'Famous'. In this track, West makes reference to his altercation with Swift, saying: "For all my Southside n***as that know me best, I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous".
In response to the backlash of the lyrics - from both Swift and her fanbase - Kim Kardashian released a short video clip of Kanye and Taylor discussing the rapper’s track, in which she appears to approve a lyric about her: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex". (Nowhere in the original clip were the lyrics, "I made that b*tch famous" discussed.)
Taylor later claimed that she never heard the song in full, saying in a social media statement: "Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is a character assassination." But despite this, Swift was widely criticized and branded a liar and a "snake", with #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty quickly trending on Twitter.
And back in March of this year, a full and seemingly unedited video of that infamous phone call was "leaked" online, reinforcing Taylor's claim that she never heard the full song lyrics, and in which Taylor comes across rather hesitant and manipulated.
If you haven't seen the full and unedited call yet, check it out below:In response, Twitter blew up, and the hashtag #KanyeWestIsOverParty was trending worldwide.
So, it is no surprise that Swift's name has been raised in response to Kanye's presidency declaration. I mean, who better to stand as his primary opposition? In fact, it is a pretty popular source of discussion on Twitter:
Others will seemingly be content with Swift running as vice-president alongside Joe Biden:
I would normally just chuckle and shrug off these tweets, but considering the way 2020 has been going, could we be seeing either Kanye or Taylor in the Oval Office in January 2021?
