Perez Hilton has spoken out for the first time since being admitted to hospital after authorities said he was 'livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media'.
Before the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office told NBC News that deputies had been called to Hilton's home following the incident, viewers had become concerned for Hilton's health.
He appeared to be covered in blood and brandishing a knife while on TikTok live, which led to authorities being called to his home on August 4.
His sister Barbara Lavandeira told police she found her brother naked and 'covered in blood' in his bathroom after he had locked himself in his bedroom.
She immediately took his three children, aged between 8 and 13, out of the house.
Hilton walked outside before they could leave, where he was still naked and bleeding, and started banging on the driver's side window.
Now, he has spoken out from the hospital.
A police report last month revealed that Hilton was treated for a drug overdose by first responders at his Miami home after the celebrity blogger's controversial livestream.
It is not clear what drugs were involved.
After fans watched Hilton suffer a mental health crisis on a TikTok livestream, the columnist has remained in hospital.
Now, as he has started to confront the order of events, a source says that he has concluded what really happened.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the insider said that Hilton claims the episode was an attack, linked to his conversion to Christianity.
“Hilton is convinced that he was under spiritual attack. This is spiritual warfare,” the source explained.
“He believes that the devil is not happy that he became a Christian, and was doing whatever to attack him.”
Hilton, 48, had an exceptionally difficult year even before August 4.
In March, he was hospitalized for 21 days with severe sepsis after a perforated ulcer.
He was on a ventilator.
He later said 'God presented himself' to him during the crisis and posted a nine-minute video publicly apologizing for years of cruel behavior as a celebrity gossip blogger.
"I made a lot of mistakes in my past," he said in the video.
"My mistakes are very public. The internet is forever. I carry with me deep shame and regret."
In April, he was back in hospital for emergency surgery after a 'massive' blood clot.
By late April, he was celebrating being able to walk again using a walker, calling it 'the most excruciating pain of my life'.
His sister told police that since the sepsis hospitalization, Hilton had been dealing with depression, anxiety, and 'overwhelming thoughts'.
He had even apologized publicly to people he had humiliated during his career.
The blogger's website shot to fame in the mid-2000s, where his cruel treatment of celebrities made him a big name in the industry.
He was criticized by the likes of Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga and Mila Kunis, as Hilton would later admit that he took it too far, giving them cruel nicknames and outing people.
Hilton said in an emotional nine-minute video: “I made a lot of mistakes in my past. We all have. Nobody’s perfect,
“But my mistakes are very public. I carry with me deep shame and regret. I’m sorry.”
He said that he reached out privately and publicly to those he affected, adding: “Because I was so selfish, because I didn’t care who I hurt, I just cared about the views, the attention, the money, people hated me.”
