Are you ready to hear about the latest celebrity feud? In one corner, Demi Lovato: singer, actress, and passionate advocate for mental health. In the other corner, Perez Hilton: celebrity gossip blogger, television personality and guy who's somehow still a thing in 2018. (Wow. Who knew doodling on tabloid photographs would lead to such a long career?)
Okay, so here's what happened: At a concert in Las Vegas, Demi Lovato performed her many hit songs which I am too lazy to look up right now. One of them was "Sorry Not Sorry," an anthem in which she defiantly taunts her haters.
The day after the concert, Demi revealed that that performance had a special meaning: ""The other night I got to sing SNS directly to one of USA’s most notorious bullies," the singer tweeted. "It felt so fucking great. That’s what the song is all about!!! Sorry not sorry that you were in the audience watching me kill it."
The Twitter-verse buzzed with speculation over the identity of this mysterious bully. But Demi refused to name names, tweeting, "He’s remaining nameless because he doesn’t deserve the relevance that he doesn’t have anymore." (Ouch.)
Luckily, Perez Hilton figured out exactly who she was talking about: Perez Hilton. What are the odds? On Twitter, the blogger complained, "@DDLovato claims to be an anti-bullying activist. But she sure is coming across like a bully to me! This is my response to her tweets against me!" Then he links to a four minute YouTube video, in which he fires back:
"Is Demi Lovato a bully?" asks Perez. "In the past, she's said a lot of bullying things toward many people, most notably, Taylor Swift." In an interview with Glamour magazine, Demi Lovato did slam Taylor Swift for bashing Katy Perry. Also, she accused Taylor's squad of not promoting a healthy body image. Does that count as bullying? And if you call a bully a bully is that bullying? This is getting confusing. Anyway, Perez continues:
"Demi Lovato has a lot of issues, from her bipolar issue to her addiction issue, substance abuse, to her food issues to her place in Hollywood. She's not Taylor Swift. She's not Selena Gomez, and it must not be easy for her. So I'm not going to respond to her negativity with more negativity."
Isn't it a little late for that? It seems like a low blow to randomly bring up Demi's struggles with an eating disorder and substance abuse. Also, it's odd Perez Hilton is so pro-Taylor Swift, when just a few months ago, he accused her of being a 'media bully.'
As the video goes on, and on and on on, Perez gloats how the show was "far from sold out" and how he "didn't pay for a ticket." In addition, he thanks Demi "for the write-up," although she never mentioned his name:
"I love that she just tweeted this about me...I will just say thank you. I appreciate the write-up. It's been getting a lot of attention and I'm honest, I love atten-tion! And I didn't pay for the ticket, thankfully! If I had to pay to go to see Demi Lovato in concert, I would not have. Simple as that...you would think ten years into her career, Demi would have thicker skin, but she doesn't, and I'm thankful for that!"
In response, Demi's fans declared Perez Hilton to be "over."
One person posted a screenshot of the two sniping at each other on Instagram. Under one of Demi's photos, Perez commented, "So sad that you're STILL talking sh-t about Taylor Swift. It really comes off as jealous and desperate." Demi replied, "ew, get out my feed." You know I'm starting to get the feeling these two don't like each other.
One eagle-eyed fan spotted Perez in the front row of Demi's concert. Hope he enjoyed the show!
So, who's the real bully? You'll have to decide. I think the real bully is the bully who thinks being called a bully is bullying.
