A petition has recently been launched to replace Amber Heard with Blake Lively in Aquaman 2.

Depp, 58, and Heard, 36, are suing each other for $50 million and $100 million respectively over a 2018 op-ed the actress wrote for The Washington Post about her experience with domestic abuse.

Attorneys for Depp argue that the piece implies he was physically abusive towards his former wife - despite the fact that he was not named in it. His legal team also allege that Heard's accusations cost him his reputation and his illustrious Hollywood career.

Many of Depp's fans have argued that Heard should have been dropped from the upcoming Aquaman sequel - just as their hero was let go from the Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises in the wake of her domestic violence allegations.

Heard did, however, manage to retain her role in the movie, claiming, though, that her scenes in the film had been reduced.

Many insist she should have been left out altogether, and an increasing number of people would love for next year's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom picture to have Gossip Girl alum Lively play the role of Mera as opposed to Heard.

In fact, a Change.org petition titled "Replace Amber Heard with Blake Lively in Aquaman 2" is gaining traction.

At the time of writing, the petition has collected 1,943 out of its initial goal of 2,500 signatures. It was launched by Tharwat Almasri, who refers to Lively as a "likeable actress and human being."

She writes in the petition's description: "After the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and all the negative 'energy' around the latest, and since Blake Lively is a much likeable actress and human being. [sic]"

In a separate post, Almasri writes: "We need to remind people that abuse has No gender and Amber Heard lies made every abused person fight for justice harder!"

Public opinion has undeniably swayed in Depp's favor. In fact, recently, the actor received support from women's abuse organization, Mission NGO, which is led by former Miss Italy Valeria Altobelli.

The 37-year-old model said in a statement: "Violence is a serious topic. As women, as mothers, we have the duty and the responsibility to educate our sons and daughters, that's to say, the Future Generation, in the light of the values of dialogue, respect and compassion between men and women, without any gender distinction, in order to prevent violence with the weapons of love and education."
