It has been days since Zendaya became the youngest woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the age of 24, and the world is continuing to sing her praises. Not least of all Michelle Obama, an avid watcher of Euphoria.
Speaking of the former First Lady, she and Zendaya teamed up yesterday as part of her Registered and Ready Instagram live takeover:

The event coincided with National Voter Registration Day. But before discussing the upcoming presidential election and the importance of exercising one's right to vote, Obama congratulated the actress on her recent win.
"I watched it, girl," she told Zendaya during the Instagram Live. "I watched every episode."
"Thank you so much," the 24-year-old responded. "It's been a great few days. You know, I feel good. I'm really really excited to be doing this with you. This is super cool."
"You’re winning Emmys and encouraged voter participation," Obama tells the actress. "You are a fashion icon. You are doing it all, and I’m so proud of you."

The chat then segued into Zendaya urging young people to avoid falling into the trap of procrastinating when it comes to voting.
“Sometimes we procrastinate — and I wanted to talk about the importance of not waiting until the last minute,” she said.
Obama acknowledged that there “a lot of people [Zendaya's] age who are frustrated with the process and feel alienated by the system.”
“Nothing will change just by a hashtag or protest. I wish that were so, because your generation is great at that,” Obama added.

She continued: “In this democracy, the only thing that matters is what you do on Election Day. ... I just want to make sure young people understand that. Don’t ever stop protesting. Don’t ever stop making your voice heard in the streets. Don’t ever stop using social media and the hashtag to get your points across. You just have to couple that with voting, too.”
This theme of "young people" having a voice was echoed in Zendaya's acceptance speech at the Emmys ceremony.

“I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there,” the actor said. “I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you.”
