Fans were left shocked when Matthew Perry wasn't included in the In Memoriam segment of the Emmys, but the reason has now been shared.

The Emmys took center stage last night (Sunday 15) and as is the custom, the ceremony paused to remember those who have died in the previous year.

Stars such as James Earl Jones, Bob Newhart, and Shannen Doherty were remembered, but Friends star Matthew Perry was left out.

Many viewers took to social media to express their disappointment over his omission from the tribute.

"Did I miss it, or did the Emmys not show Matthew Perry?" one fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Another echoed the sentiment, asking: "How in the world did the Emmys not include Matthew Perry?!?!"

However, there is a reason Perry was not included in the 2024 ceremony.

He had already been honored during the 2023 Emmys, which took place in January due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes delaying the original September 2023 date.

During that ceremony, the Emmys paid tribute to Perry with a heartfelt tribute, playing Friends’ iconic theme song, 'I'll Be There for You,' during the In Memoriam segment.

The tribute concluded with an image of the beloved actor.

In Perry related news, this summer arrests were made in connection to his death.

Among those charged are two doctors, Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez, Perry’s assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, and a woman known as the “Ketamine Queen,” Jasveen Sangha.

The fifth defendant, Erik Fleming, was an alleged drug dealer and former Hollywood director.

According to court documents obtained by NBC News, Sangha allegedly sold Perry approximately 15 vials of ketamine for $11,000 in cash, facilitated by Fleming, who had a direct connection to the actor.

U.S. Attorney E. Martin Estrada stated during a press conference that Sangha supplied the fatal doses of ketamine to Perry on October 24, just four days before his death.

After Perry’s passing, Sangha reportedly messaged Fleming on the encrypted app Signal, urging him to delete their communications.

"Delete all our messages," she wrote, according to BBC.

Fleming allegedly complied, responding: "Yes."

Two days later, Fleming expressed concerns in another message to Sangha: "I’m 90% sure everyone is protected. I never dealt with [Perry], only his assistant. So the assistant was the enabler."

The court filings also revealed that Fleming inquired about the longevity of ketamine in the system, asking: "Does K stay in your system or is it immediately flushed out?"
