This is the reason Tom Cruise's daughter Suri hasn't spoken to him in years

Tom Cruise is a bit of an oddball, isn't he? Aside from being one of the most successful actors of all time, Cruise is known for his intense personality, which has seen him jump around on the chairs on Oprah, reportedly ban his ex-wife from publicly dating after their split, and, who could forget, he is also a Scientologist.

Back in 2006, Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes tied the knot. The relationship seemed like a happy one until, in 2012, Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise and the couple split in 2012. Since then, the actress has gone on to date Jamie Foxx.

According to various sources, Cruise felt 'betrayed' by the recently revealed relationship and it's understood that he knew about the secretive couple before they became public. Apparently, Tom and Jamie had been long-time friends since they had worked together on the 2004 thriller, Collateral.

"Tom is shocked and upset Katie is dating a co-star he once considered a close friend. He feels betrayed by both of them," said the source.

"Tom has known about Katie and Jamie’s secret relationship since the beginning and it has always bothered him that they were hooking up.

"While Katie and Jamie did their best to keep things a secret from the world, Tom is too well-connected and found out about them shortly after their romance began."

But, it has been revealed that, despite the fact they have a daughter together, Cruise has absolutely no relationship with his child. Suri, who is now 11, was last seen together with her father back in 2012 and, according to another source close to the family, "Tom hasn't seen or even called Suri in about three years."

It has now been revealed that Holmes feared for Suri's safety after splitting from Cruise, worrying that the Church of Scientology may abduct her. It's claimed that many leaders of the church, where Cruise is a key figure, shun those who don't conform. However, spokesperson for the church said that this wasn't the case.

"We never comment on individual parishioners' lives. On the issue of Church religious practices, we do not know who your anonymous sources are, but they got it all wrong. The answer to your question is no.

"Scientologists respect the faith of others, associate with and befriend members of every religion. Scientologists do not cut ties with non-Scientologist friends or family members because they have chosen another religion.

"Given that Scientology is a new religion, Scientologists often have family members and friends who are not Scientologists and who may practice another faith or no faith at all. This causes no conflict for Scientologists."

While Suri has undoubtedly had a fairly privileged childhood due to the status of her mother, it seems a shame that she has had to grow up without her father around. Whether it has anything to do with Scientology or not, hopefully, the two can reconcile in some form or another.
