Ricky Gervais has shared his perspective on the ongoing defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial
Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 36, over a 2018 op-ed she penned for The Washington Post, in which she shared her experience with domestic abuse. While he was not named in the article, Depp argues that it falsely suggests Heard was abused by him during their relationship.
Depp is seeking $50 million in damages, with his ex-wife countersuing the Hollywood star for twice the amount.
Speaking to fellow comic and street journalist Adam Glyn ahead of the release of his latest Netflix special, Supernature, the 60-year-old After Life star referred to it as "weird" that the case was being broadcast on television.
"I stay away from all that, I don't really look at that celebrity stuff, even though this isn't celebrity [stuff] is it - but I try not to have it in my head," said Gervais.
He went on to add: "I don't think either of them are going to come out of it as a win because all of your private stuff... I don't know, I hate having to go through it and it's even weirder that they televise a court case. So I don't really do that stuff."
Depp and Gervais have worked together previously, with the Pirates of the Caribbean star having appeared on Gervais and Stephen Merchant's series Life's Too Short.
In any case, the trial is currently in its final week, with both Heard and Depp having testified their respective accounts of abuse.

The Aquaman star accuses her ex-husband of physical and sexual assault and the latter accuses the former of physical abuse. He denies ever hitting Heard, telling the jury in his testimony: "Nothing of the kind had ever happened. Though [in] the relationship there were arguments and things of that nature... but never did I, myself, reach the point of striking Ms. Heard in any way. Nor have I ever struck any woman in my life."
"I am obsessed with the truth," he added. "Today is... actually the first opportunity that I've been able to speak about this case in full."
The trial's verdict is set to be announced on May 27.
