Rhianna is being slammed for cultural appropriation after sharing a topless snap of herself wearing a necklace featuring the Hindu god Ganesha.

In the picture, which was posted to Twitter on Tuesday (February 16), the singer, 32, can be seen wearing a pair of lavender satin boxers by her lingerie label, Savage X Fenty, paired with matching jewelry including statement earrings and a beaded necklace.

However, a diamond-studded carving of the elephant-headed deity has been slammed by the 'Umbrella' hitmaker's followers as "disrespectful".

One Twitter user wrote in response to the snap: "Why use ganesha necklace when he is worshipped in Hindu religion [sic]."

A second added: "Rihanna ! Stop Using my religion as aesthetic ! that 'Ganesh Bhagwan' Figurine at the end of the Chain [sic]."

A third remarked: "i am a hindu & it’s offensive of you to wear that ganesha necklace being topless wtf [sic]."

Meanwhile, a fourth shared a zoomed-in picture of the necklace and wrote: "This is really disrespectful to our religion."

However, not everyone was bothered by the photograph the singer posted and another simply responded to it with a meme that read: "We need the damn album!"

This incident comes just weeks after Rhianna angered the Indian government by tweeting in support of the thousands of farmers who were caught up in violent protests in New Dehli.

The singer tweeted "why aren't we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest" alongside a link to a news article about the incident to her 101 million-plus followers.

As per news.com.au. Rhianna was supported by Greta Thunberg who said that she stood "in solidarity" with India's farmers.

However, the singer's comments were dismissed by India’s Foreign Ministry, who said that it was irresponsible of foreign celebrities to comment on the country's affairs.

"The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible," the ministry wrote.

This incident is also far from the first time that Rhianna has been accused of cultural appropriation and in 2019, the singer was forced to apologize after posing in Chinese clothing and accessories on the cover of Harper's Bazaar China.
