The name update comes as Rob’s business empire continues to expand far beyond Paddy’s Pub.

He and Ryan Reynolds co-own Welsh soccer club Wrexham FC, and Rob launched his private company “More Better Industries” in 2024.

Wrexham have gone from strength to strength under their leadership, securing consecutive promotions to put them in the second tier of English soccer.

The Disney+ documentary, Welcome to Wrexham, follows the journey and has been a hit with fans across the world.

Wrexham, the third oldest professional soccer club globally, had been absent from the Football League for over 15 years. Their investment, coupled with strategic marketing, has played a pivotal role in the club's resurgence.

In an interview with Variety, the two emphasized their commitment to shining a spotlight on Wrexham and its resilient community

But with success in television and sport, Rob has decided to make another change - his name.

According to TMZ, the Philly favorite has filed documents in Los Angeles to legally change his name to “Rob Mac.”

Yes, Mac - just like his aggressively clueless, sleeveless hoodie-wearing Always Sunny character.

The switch from “Robert McElhenney III” to the much simpler “Rob Mac” isn’t just about vibes. It’s about practicality, too.

“As our business and our storytelling is expanding into other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even harder to pronounce, I’m just going by Rob Mac,” the former real-life bartender told Variety in May, hinting that the change was coming.

While the move might delight “Sunny” fans who have called him Mac for years, not everyone is thrilled - especially at home.

“The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name. And so do I, legally,” Rob’s wife and Sunny co-star Kaitlin Olson told Variety, admitting she also had some nerves about the change.

It's clear that Rob is a man who achieves whatever he sets his mind to, as told by FX boss John Landgraf in the Variety interview.

“This is a guy who just wants to do something — or sees that something needs to be done — and then just figures out how to do it,” he said.

“If he decides, ‘I want to buy an old soccer team in the U.K. with Ryan Reynolds,’ they go out and find a team. Now, the king of England and the prince of Wales are coming to the place. That’s magic.

"There’s just something about both of them. About Kaitlin’s way with a with a character or way with a scene. It’s not shocking to me at all that ‘High Potential’ is a hit.”
