Saturday night's 2024 SAG Awards in Los Angeles brought many surprises and memorable moments, with actor Idris Elba seizing the opportunity to inject some unexpected humor into the evening's proceedings.

With the event airing on Netflix - known for its more relaxed content guidelines compared to regular television - Elba, the first presenter of the night, took full advantage of the freedom, using colorful language to set the tone for the evening.

Addressing the nominees, he cheekily remarked: "You can curse as much as you like," before adding a playful warning not to say anything they wouldn't utter in front of Oprah Winfrey. Check out the moment below:

The cameras then hilariously cut to 70-year-old Winfrey sitting in the crowd, looking rather perplexed by the Luther star's comments.

Upon seeing that Winfrey was, in fact, sat in front of him, Idris gasped: "F***, that was Oprah!" - Drawing big laughs from those in the audience.

The star's candid approach didn't stop there. Recounting a humorous anecdote from his early days in the industry, Elba shared a tale of his youthful ambition, revealing how he once bluffed his way into Robert De Niro's office... before being kicked out.

Despite being escorted out by De Niro's producing partner, Elba took it as a sign of encouragement, interpreting it as: "Kid, you’re going to go places."

While Elba regaled the audience with his charm, the awards ceremony honored standout performances across film and television. Disney+'s chef comedy-drama The Bear and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer emerged as big winners, each securing three prestigious awards.

The Bear clinched honors for best ensemble in a comedy series, with Jeremy Allen White winning best male performance and Ayo Edebiri scooping the award for best female actor in the same category. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer secured accolades for best performance by a cast in a motion picture, along with leading actor recognition for Cillian Murphy and a supporting actor win for Robert Downey Jr.

Other notable winners included Pedro Pascal for Best Male Actor in a Drama Series for The Last of Us - sparking this incredible drunk acceptance speech:

Elizabeth Debicki also won for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown.

However, not every nominee took home a trophy. Despite its nominations, the highly anticipated film Barbie left empty-handed after being nominated for four awards.
