In this modern world we inhabit, we are confronted of visions of perfection practically wherever we look.

On huge billboards in city centers, on the front cover of glossy magazines, even on our very own phone screens as we scroll through the endlessly filtered corridors of Instagram.

Watch this classic clip of Salma Hayek as Santanico Pandemonium in the 1996 film From Dusk Till Dawn:

Yet there are those who are attempting to redress the balance and provide a much-needed dose of reality on social media. Movements like the Grombre movement, which encourages people to embrace their grey hair, and the body positivity movement, which aims to help people feel comfortable in the skin they're in, are becoming more and more prevalent against the waves of chiseled abs and gleaming smiles that we're used to.

And many celebrities are also becoming involved in trying to portray a more realistic representation of life, as opposed to a perfectly filtered part-reality that purports to be perfect.

Recently, actress Salma Hayek took to Instagram to share with her fans a makeup free, no-filter selfie. Hayek captioned the snap "#selfiesunday #nofilter #nature", and fans were stunned by her fresh-faced appearance.

One enamored commenter wrote, "The most beautiful woman ever," while another added, "No makeup needed ❤️❤️ you look so young." A third said, "Wow so beautiful without make up".

Another commenter exclaimed, "Is it possible that she is even prettier without the makeup?!?!..."

Hayek has spoken candidly about her relationship with her body image in the past. In a 2016 interview with Harper's Bazaar she said,  "I am entering my fifties so your body confidence isn’t that good. I think it depends on the day, for everybody, there’s some days you say, ‘This is it,’ and you love it. Then there are days when you go, ‘This can not be it! Is this really it?’ So I think it’s up and down all the time!"
